In the paper an investigation on the behavior of six‐pulse AC/DC converters is presented, with the aim of studying the influence of plant and load parameters on harmonic currents injected by converters in A C networks. By means of a piece‐wise linear approach, the analytical solution of steady‐state currents is achieved and AC current waveform is built up. In this way, several cases with different plant parameters can be processed in reasonable computer times, and indication on plant‐parameters optimization is achieved. Comparisons are made with the approximate method, often employed to evaluate AC harmonic current amplitudes, and considered the “worst‐case” to this purpose, which resorts to Fourier series decomposition of a rectangular AC‐current waveshape.
