SUMMARY Approximately 1,000 dairy cattle in 11 herds were tested for precipitating antibodies against bovine C-type (leukemia) virus; 222 reactors were detected. Five herds in which lymphosarcoma had not occurred during the past 13 years (or more) had a lower percentage of reactors (2 to 16%) than did 6 herds with histories of lymphosarcoma during the past 10 years (24 to 42%). Virus was demonstrated in 100 of 117 reactors, including 36 cattle from the 5 herds without histories of recent lymphosarcoma.
