Retrograde retrieval of a novel large mitral clip that embolized into the left ventricle was successfully performed in a patient with severe secondary mitral regurgitation and challenging anatomy.
Case Report (n=1)
Demonstrates the feasibility of retrograde retrieval as a bailout procedure for a large mitral clip embolized into the left ventricle during transcatheter edge-to-edge repair.
May offer bailout option in rare clip embolization; leaves open generalizability and safety in larger cohorts.
We describe the successful retrieval of a novel large mitral clip, which embolized in a patient with severe secondary mitral regurgitation and left ventricular dysfunction, dilated left ventricle, and severely tethered mitral valve leaflets in the setting of a challenging anatomy for transcatheter edge-to-edge repair. The description highlights planning, technical issues, and possible adverse events of this bailout procedure. (Level of Difficulty: Intermediate.)
