Explicit formulae are found for the electric field vectors of the ordinary and extraordinary modes produced when plane waves of p or s polarization are incident on an arbitrary face of a uniaxial crystal. The angle of incidence is unrestricted, and the anisotropic medium may be absorbing. The reflection amplitudes r pp , r ps , r ss , r sp , the transmission amplitudes t po , t pe ,t so ,t se , and the wavevector and ray directions are then determined in terms of the direction cosines of the optic axis relative to the laboratory axes.
