The discharge coefficient for spillways is expressed in terms of geometric parameters and the total upstream head. The solution, which is valid for small heads, can be applied to any spillway having a smooth crest, regardless of shape. Discharge coefficients obtained through application of the described theory are compared with published values for a circular-shaped and two standard-shaped spillways.
