How soon radionuclides can show tumor spread from soft tissue to bone was studied both clinically and experimentally. Scans were positive in 17 of 31 patients; roentgenograms were obtained in 16 of these and were positive in 9 cases. Eleven of the 15 patients with negative scans also had negative roentgen studies. In rats studied with 85Sr after tumor implantation, counting of the affected bone showed a slightly increased uptake, but radiographs failed to indicate any evidence of bone invasion.
