Velocity shear is deliberately introduced by firing two plasma guns, laterally displaced, at one another across a magnetic field. Double-probe measurements of electric fields (and hence velocity) in the plasma clearly show the existence of traveling vortices or eddies which contain most of the plasma. Simultaneous velocity and density profiles of eddies have been obtained and examples are shown.
