A series of new metal chelates of Ni(II), Co(II), Cu(II), Fe(III), Zn(II), Cd(II) and La(III) with a Schiff base ligand formed by condensation of isatin with o‐aminophenol have been synthesized and characterized via elemental analyses, infrared, electronic spectral data, proton nuclear magnetic resonance spectra, conductivity and magnetic measurements. Two types of complexes were isolated. The [M(IAP)2]nH2O complexes in which two molecules of the ligand are coordinated to the central metal Ion as bis‐uninegative ONO tridentate forming electrolytic and non‐electrolytic octahedral complexes. On the other hand, the dimeric [M(IAP)CIH2O]2 complexes attain the octahedral structure owing to the bridging nature of the ligand.
