The effect of air relative humidity on the shock absorbing properties of three types of corrugated fiberboard (single face, single wall, and double wall) was studied. Samples were conditioned at four different relative humidities ranging from 55% to 95% and then tested using an appropriate cushion tester. The results show that there is a significant influence of the moisture content of the corrugated fiberboard material on the cushioning characteristics. These results are particularly important when designing packages for fresh horticultural products, especially in cases where a favorable situation for strengthening the compressive resistance is unfavorable for shock absorbing or energy dissipating during an impact.
