The sensitivity to lead nitrate of four chosen poplar species has been investigated. P. maximowiczii turned out to be the most sensitive, and P, nigra the least sensitive one. Morphologically lead presence in the loaves in manifested itself with a change of colour (from green to more or less reddish‐brown)of the leaf venation and petioles and with necrosis of some parts of the blade. At the ultrastructural level lead deposits were present mainly within the vascular elements of the leaves.
