Robust, but reactive: The first example of a Li/Cl carbenoid that is stable at room temperature has been prepared by mild oxidation of a geminal dianion (see scheme). The electronic reasons behind this unusual thermal stability are presented on the basis of DFT calculations. The reactivity of this carbenoid was investigated in the formation of a palladium carbene complex.
