The effectiveness of therapeutic interventions for chronic sinusitis is best measured with research methodology based on patient-based outcomes. In recent years, several healthrelated quality-of-life survey instruments directed at chronic sinusitis have been constructed and validated. Prospective observational outcomes studies utilizing these instruments have shown that chronic sinusitis is a great health burden on those patients suffering this common yet debilitating illness and that functional endoscopic sinus surgery has made a positive impact on their clinical symptoms as well as their functional capacity and psychosocial well-being.
