Application of the thiobarbiturate acid (TBA) reaction to pigmented plant tissues (sugarbeet green leaves and calli) leads to an overestimation of malondialdehyde (MDA) concentration. A method of MDA estimation for pigmented plant tissues has been developed, using the trichloroacetic acid precipitated protein pellet, with acetone depigmentation, before TBA reaction. Absorbance is measured between 532 and 590 nm.
