A simple, direct method is proposed for characterizing the extent of slow-tumbling molecular motions of nitroxide spin labels or spin probes in amorphous substances. This method essentially consists of determining accurate values for the ’’single-crystal,’’ first-derivative peak-to-peak linewidths of nitroxides from their second-derivative hyperfine power spectra and hence employing the dependence of the linewidths on the nitrogen nuclear-spin-magnetic quantum number M resulting from molecular motion.
