A common source is suggested for the acetonitrile (CH3CN) and methanol (CH3OH) observed in the stratospheric ions [CH3CN·H+·(H2O)n] and [CH3OH·H+·(H2O)n)]. Our chemical scheme originates with the three‐body association of HCN and CH2O. Rate constants needed to explain the observations are estimated. An astrophysical application is briefly noted.
