SummaryMeasurements have been made of the effects of solution composition and operating conditions on the plating rate, phosphorus content and certain physical properties of electroless nickel deposited from a bath based on nickel sulphate and sodium hypophosphite. Where the relation between these parameters and the resultant properties had been previously extensively investigated, the present work has largely confirmed the earlier results. However, this investigation has produced new data on ductility and internal stress, indicating that the acidity of the electroless nickel solution has a marked effect on both. Maximum ductility or zero stress can be obtained by close pH control.
