The F1 hybrids of reciprocal crosses between Jhona 349 and Magnolia exhibited a high, degree of salt resistance regarding plant height and the number of spikelets per panicle. The behavior of the delayed type panicle sterility caused by salinity suggested that Maguolia has a gene or genes for this characterlstic. No cytoplasmic effect on salt resistance was observed in the reciprocal crosses.
