The two years' experiments described compared the growth of suckling lambs on ‘long’ and ‘short’ ryegrass swards. The animals were carried at a moderate stocking rate. Differences in sward height were established before grazing began and were maintained throughout each season. There were no significant differences in lamb growth between treatments. The structures of the swards are discussed in relation to the results, and the possible effect of differences in parasitic infestation on ‘long’ and ‘short’ swards is considered.
