For over a year, several hundred women have been holding regular Saturday vigils in Istanbul, Turkey. They are the “Saturday Mothers,” Turkey's answer to the “Mothers of the Plaza de Mayo” in Argentina. Like the Argentinean mothers, the Saturday Mothers have sons and daughters who one day left home or were taken away by the security forces, and never returned. In other words, the Saturday Mothers are the mothers of the disappeared in Turkey.
