Cross-sectional study finds an inverse correlation between forward head posture and postural stability in adolescents with digital eye strain, indicating that neck misalignment impairs balance.
AbstractBackground:The increased reliance on digital device among adolescents has spiked prevalence of Digital Eye Strain (DES). Consideringthis, finding the relationship between Forward Head Posture (FHP) and Postural Stability (PS) is important. Objective:To correlate FHP and PS in adolescents with DESMethods:A cross-sectional study was conducted among 208 adolescents. DES, FHP and PS were assessed with Computer VisionSyndrome Questionnaire (CVSQ), MB Ruler software and modified Romberg’s equilibrium test with 3 variations anddynamic stepping test. Results:DES prevalence was 76.44%. Among these, 43.39% exhibited FHP, static postural stability variations - P1, P2, P3 and P4were 55.07%, 76.81%, 97.10% and 79.71% respectively. Dynamic stability was affected in 58 individuals. A moderatenegative correlation was observed between FHP and PS.Conclusion:FHP has significant impact on PS among adolescents with DES.
