This analysis deals with the influence of misalignment (static and dynamic) of a tilting-pad journal bearing. Three different isothermal cases were compared: the initial bearing clearance and viscosity, the initial bearing clearance and effective viscosity deduced from a thermohydrodynamic analysis, and the operating bearing clearance and effective viscosity deduced from a thermoelastohydrody-namic analysis. It will be established that increasing the misalignment amplitude and dynamic load and decreasing the lubricant viscosity and clearance induce large changes in the bearing characteristics (the minimum film thickness, maximum pressure, axial flow and misalignment moment).
