Tests indicate the pitting tendency of Kingston tapwater is a result of its intrinsic composition and not a consequence of contamination from the city water system. It is shown that movement of water reduces both pitting probability and rate and that beyond a certain velocity, no pitting occurs. Several variations of specimen preparations were investigated including boiling in water.
