A general procedure for the analysis of shaded-pole motors, based upon rotating field theory, is presented. The analysis allows for as many as three shading coils per pole as well as an arbitrary reluctance-augmented airgap. The procedure is applied to a typical shaded-pole motor and results are compared with experimental values.
