2-Chloronitropyridines react with the anion of benzyl cyanide, benzotriazole, imidazole, pyrrole, and phthalimide to give the corresponding 2-substituted nitro-pyridines. The SRN1 mechanism was confirmed by EPR spectroscopy and depression of reaction rate by the addition of an inhibitor.
