The magnetic moments of 17 tetrahedral complexes of Co(II) have been carefully measured, most of them over a temperature range. The Curie-Weiss law is found to hold in all cases where the temperature dependence was studied. The variations of the orbital contribution to the moment are shown to be in accord with expectation from ligand field theory (Schlapp and Penney), and the utility of the results in correlating magnetic properties, spectra, and structures of Co(II) complexes is briefly discussed.
