Linoleic acid can be hydrogenated by hydrazine and, under suitable experimental conditions, the reaction, as measured by the decrease in iodine value, is 90% complete in 8 hours. The reaction in its initial stages proceeds more rapidly with linoleic acid than with oleic and other mono‐ethenoid acids indicating that the rate of hydrogenation varies with the degree of unsaturation and the concentration of unsaturated acids.
