Dolomitic limestone from Kingston, Ontario, has importance as a type example of rock which when used in concrete, produces an alkali-aggregate reaction different from reported alkali-silica reaction. The expansive reaction caused deterioration and cracking of the concrete. A petrographic, mineralogical, and chemical comparison was made between rock which showed high expansion in concrete and that which displayed no reactivity and also between the same material before and after use in concrete (referred to through-out as "rock" and "aggregate" respectively).
