Pilot experiments carried out in the course of developing techniques of in vivo neutron activation analysis are described. The eventual application is the measurement of total body contents of nitrogen and oxygen of both ambulatory and critically ill patients. The three techniques described are: nitrogen measured by the prompt-gamma ray technique; induced method for the measurement of total body nitrogen; cyclic activation for the measurement of oxygen.
