Phosphane complexes of NiCl2 react with Se(SiMe3)2 affording mixtures of cluster complexes whose structures are dependent on the phosphane ligands. Through the variation of the ligands, complexes 1–6 were isolated and structurally characterized (Phe = C2H4Ph). Cluster 2 incorporates a spirocyclic Ni5 framework, 6 a central Ni13 cuboctahedron. equation image
