Heat treatment is a practical approach that has been thoroughly studied to strengthen Mg alloys for different applications. The aim of this work is to study the effect of the addition of Mn and a heat treatment process on the mechanical and in vitro corrosion properties of a Mg-Zn-Ca-based alloy. The microstructure of the prepared Mg-1.2Zn-0.5Ca (wt.%) and Mg-1.2Zn-0.5Ca (wt.%) alloys, as-cast and heat-treated, was investigated using optical microscopy, scanning electron microscopy (SEM), energy dispersive spectroscopy (EDS).
