The diffuse reflectance spectrum of chromic oxide for both pure and diluted powder samples in the region 200 to 1000 nm has been studied. Three bands have been observed at 606, 460, and 276 nm in the pure sample and have been ascribed to 4A2g → 4T2g(4F),4A2g → →4T1g(4F), and 4A2g→ 4T1g(4P ) transitions, respectively. The values of Racah parameter, nephelauxetic ratio, and bonding parameter have also been computed for 14 complexes.
