Revised assignments for d9s2p2and d9s2p3in Ga, In, Tl, Ge, Sn and Pb

Partial plots of the transition from LS to J 1 J 2 coupling are exploited as an aid to unravelling the complexity of d 9 s 2 p k configurations in Ga, In, Tl, Ge, Sn and Pb. Although the full transition from LS to J 1 J 2 coupling cannot be plotted in two dimensions for d 9 s 2 p 2 or d 9 s 2 p 3 , the partial plots enable consistent assignments to be made by comparison with individual intermediate-coupling calculations for each element.
