The validity of the Dupuit-Forchheimer formula for the discharge of a gravity well is established through exact analytical procedures. An equation is obtained for computing the drawdown of the water table if observational drawdowns in wells screened throughout and completely penetrating the free aquifer are available. The equation is compared with solutions obtained by the laborious relaxation methods.
