The problem is considered of image effect errors in inductive methods of magnetization measurement when a superconducting solenoid provides the magnetizing field. Apparatus design factors relevant to minimizing such errors are discussed in relation to other design considerations in terms of a simple model of specimen field distortion. The importance of obtaining the tightest possible coupling between specimen and detection coil, and the advantage of a large relative solenoid bore are pointed out.
