Summary: Methods are described for obtaining suitable liquid cultures of Serratia indica for transporting mature cultures in the field and for viable cell determination using membrane filters. The effect of culture medium composition on growth curves and on viability of very dilute suspensions of the organism in vitro in distilled and sea water was investigated. The results of a field investigation at a sewage outfall are described.
