Transcatheter implantation of the biological Sapien Edwards valve in the pulmonary position was performed successfully without periprocedural complications in 2 patients with post-operative right ventricular outflow tract dysfunction.
Why the study?
Is transcatheter implantation of the Sapien Edwards valve in the pulmonary position feasible and safe in patients with postoperative right ventricular outflow tract dysfunction?
Case Report (n=2)
No
Is transcatheter implantation of the Sapien Edwards valve in the pulmonary position feasible and safe in patients with postoperative right ventricular outflow tract dysfunction?
Transcatheter implantation of the Sapien Edwards valve in the pulmonary position is feasible and provides an alternative for patients with right ventricular outflow tract dysfunction and anatomy too large for the Melody valve.
May support Sapien use in oversized RVOT unsuitable for Melody; leaves open need for prospective validation before wider adoption.
We present the first in Poland, and among the first in Europe, cases of transcatheter implantation of the biological Sapien Edwards valve in the pulmonary position. The valves were implanted successfully without periprocedural complications in 2 patients with postoperative right ventricular outflow tract dysfunction.

Demkow et al. (2011) conducted a case report in post-operative right ventricular outflow tract dysfunction (n=2). biological Sapien Edwards valve was evaluated on Procedural success and periprocedural complications. Transcatheter implantation of the biological Sapien Edwards valve in the pulmonary position was performed successfully without periprocedural complications in 2 patients with post-operative right ventricular outflow tract dysfunction.
