Polarised X-rays of the Deutsches Elektronen-Synchrotron have been used to measure the anisotropic absorption of a GeS single crystal at the Ge K-edge. The orientation-dependent radial structure functions which have been calculated from the extended X-ray absorption fine structure are used to evaluate the three-dimensional arrangement of the atoms in the crystal. An excellent agreement of these results with X-ray diffraction data is observed.
