Ultrasound is suitable for focal superficial lesions. MRI is best for more diffuse deep lesions. MRI and ultrasound are complimentary techniques. Plain films provide useful information in some cases. A confident diagnosis can be made on imaging in most cases. Biopsy should only be performed following consultation with the surgeon.
