Pentlandite is recorded from a poorly known occurrence of sulphide ore on the Takaka River in the northern part of the South Island of New Zealand. The ore is a typical pyrrhotite‐pentiandite‐chalcopyrite association comparable in paragenesis and mode of occurrence with the nickel ores of Sudbury (Ontario), Insizwa (South Africa), and elsewhere. The ore is rich, but the known extent of the lode is too small for it to be of economic value. Suggestions are made for future exploration.
