Qualitative interview examines redistribution and recognition strategies in modern political organizing, highlighting the need to link cultural identity with material economic reforms.
Nancy Fraser is one of the most influential left‐wing philosophers and socialist‐feminist thinkers of the last 50 years. She is perhaps best known for her discussion of the politics of redistribution and recognition. Socialists, she argues, should not treat these two areas of politics—the cultural and the material—as distinct, but look to understand and articulate how they are related. She spoke to IPPR's Sofia Ropek Hewson about America's new left, alliance‐building and the challenge of the radical right. Note: associated with Marxist‐feminist thought, ‘social reproduction’ refers to the processes by which the conditions underlying capitalist production are maintained, including through housing, childcare, healthcare and education.
