Observational analysis reveals a strong positive correlation between outer disk mass fraction and gravitational anomaly in SPARC galaxies, suggesting new constraints on galactic dynamics.
Based on SPARC galaxy data, this study investigates the statistical relationshipbetween the mass fraction in the outer 30% radius region of a galaxy (i.e., theratio of baryonic mass in that region to the total baryonic mass of the galaxy) andthe gravitational anomaly ratio Y (the ratio of observed rotational velocity to thevelocity expected from baryonic matter). The analysis reveals a significant positivecorrelation, which manifests as a “triangular” distribution pattern: galaxies withhigher outer disk mass fractions tend to exhibit systematically larger dispersion intheir Y values, especially in the upper boundary. The Spearman rank correlationcoefficient ρ = 0.78 (p < 0.001) indicates that this relation is extremely robust. This relation is derived entirely from the statistical analysis of SPARC galaxy data, independent of any theoretical assumptions, and provides a new perspective forunderstanding galaxy gravitational anomalies.
