Policy review reveals substantial alignment with trauma-informed care principles in maternity hospital documents, indicating a need to refine mandatory language.
Trauma informed care (TIC), an organizational framework to mitigate psychological trauma, may benefit maternity health services. This study analysed the alignment of a maternity hospital’s policies and documents to TIC principles. A three-stage screening process and stratified sampling resulted in a 100-document sample. Document content and tone were analysed using qualitative content analysis and a targeted linguistic analysis. The results indicated a high prevalence of TIC-aligned content, with differential coding frequency across TIC principles. Documents’ tone was mainly advisory; however, the use of mandatory tone requires further exploration. The findings suggest a policy revision to align content and tone with TIC principles.
