Local field in a bent step‐index slab waveguide

The local field, field shift, and perturbation correction to the propagation constant in a bent slab waveguide with symmetric step‐index profile are investigated by using local field theory. Simple analytical expressions are given to describe the local fields in the bent slab waveguide for TE and TM modes. An implicit equation is given for the shift of the field maximum of the TE0 fundamental mode.
