This paper analyzes chaotic phenomena in a three-phase nonlinear power device. The analysis shows that the occurrence of chaotic oscillations in the power device depends on the resistances of the power-supply side of the device, and is not related to the sharpness of the saturation curves of the magnetic cores used. When the curve showing the relation of output and input for the device has jumping characteristics, there are two chaotic regions; a pre-jump region and a post-jump region. This analysis is confirmed experimentally; phase planes, stroboscopic planes, and a power spectrum of the oscillation are presented as evidence of chaotic oscillations.
