Rather than taking a long-term, speculative approach this review attempts to identify a limited number of application areas where HTS devices operated at 77 K are already competitive with those of other technologies. The devices described are novel magnetometers, electromagnetic shielding, SQUIDS and passive low-loss microwave components.
