Barium titanate (BaTiO 3 )-polyvinylidene fluoride (PVDF) composite thick films were grown by using aerosol deposition at room temperature with BaTiO 3 and PVDF powders. To produce a uniform composition in ceramic and polymer composite films, which show a substantial difference in specific gravity, we used PVDF-coated BaTiO 3 powders as the starting materials. An examination of the microstructure confirmed that the BaTiO 3 were well distributed in the PVDF matrix in the form of a 0 – 3 compound. The crystallite size in the BaTiO 3 -PVDF composite thick films was 5 ∼ 50 times higher than that in pure BaTiO 3 thick films. PVDF plays a role in suppressing the fragmentation of BaTiO 3 powder during the aerosol deposition process and in controlling the relative permittivity.
