Congenital absence of pain sensation is a rare but well recognized sensory phenomenon. It may occur as an isolated abnormality, when the term congenital indifference to pain is applied. When the lack of response to noxious stimuli accompanies other detectable defects of the sensory nervous system, the term congenital sensory neuropathy is preferred. 1,2 Swanson3 first drew attention to a separate entity when he described two siblings with congenital analgesia with anhidrosis. To date, seven patients have been reported.2,4,5 We report an Asian child in whom insensitivity to pain is associated with hypohidrosis and delayed motor and mental development. CASE REPORT
