Five new complexes of the wholly deprotonated C-centered triangular flexible ligand tris( p -carboxyphenyl)methane (TCOPM), namely, {[Zn 4 O(TCOPM) 2 (H 2 O) 2 ]·8H 2 O·3DMF} n ( 1 ), {[Mn 3 (TCOPM) 2 (H 2 O) 2 ]} n ( 2 ), {[Cd 3 (TCOPM) 2 (DMF)(H 2 O) 3 ]·3H 2 O} n ( 3 ), {[Cd 3 (TCOPM) 2 (4,4′-bipy)]·2H 2 O·2DMF} n ( 4 ), and {[Cd 4 (TCOPM) 2 (dpyb) 3 (NO 2 ) 2 ·(H 2 O) 2 ]·5H 2 O} n ( 5 ), are synthesized in the presence or absence of auxiliary 4,4′-bipyridine (4,4′-bipy) and 1,4-di(pyridine-4-yl)benzene (dpyb) ligands by solvothermal reaction. The complexes were characterized by elemental analysis, IR spectroscopy, thermogravimetric analysis, and X-ray single-crystal diffraction. Compound 1 exhibits an unusual three-dimensional (3D) framework containing a one-dimensional (1D) channel based on a Zn 4 O cluster, with (4·8 2 )(4 2 ·6)(4 3 · 6· 8 10 ·10) net topology. 2 displays a 3D network structure with tfz-d topology type. Compound 3 reveals double-layered two-dimensional (2D) framework. Compound 4 possesses a 3D structure with a (3,3,10)-connected net. 5 is a 3D structure with (6 23 ·8 5 )(6 3 ) 2 (6 5 ·8) topology. The photochemical properties and emission decay lifetimes were determined in the solid state at room temperature. The luminescent properties of compounds 1 and 3 – 5 are discussed in detail. The N 2 gas adsorption of compound 1 exhibits type-I sorption behavior.
