A significant reduction in stalk dry weight was found to occur during the last half of the grain‐filling period for several corn (Zea mays L.) hybrids grown at various plant populations during two seasons in Ontario. This decrease was attributed to a remobilization towards the ear of soluble carbohydrates stored temporarily in the stalk.
