The pseudospark discharge in a neon-filled multi-gap chamber was investigated. The rise and decay of internal and external currents were studied. After breakdown, the plasma temperature was determined to be 2.5 eV. Lasing was observed from the Ne(3p(3/2) 2 to 3s(3/2) 2 ) transition of 614.3 nm. The results were found to be compatible with a model for the pseudospark discharge.
